Waimate Theatre Company
ABOUT
Waimate Theatre Company is based in the small rural town of Waimate, near the east coast of the South Island of New Zealand, halfway between Timaru and Oamaru.

Over the years Theatre Company has produced shows and events covering a wide range of genres – musicals, comedies, theatre restaurant, children’s productions, murder mystery and choral events.

The Company is always pleased to hear from people keen to get involved; whether to merge with others in the back line of the chorus, or shine out front with a lead part, or to support the cast and productions as director, musical director, choreographer, lighting, sound, costume, make-up, set building or anything else.

Please contact us if you would like to get involved

Currently the committee are looking at several options for productions over the next year, we are thinking of doing something before Christmas and have some ideas for next years shows.

Most of us are just getting over the hugely successful 'Wizard of Oz' and tidying up the aftermath with costumes and sets heading to their respective owners and the financial reconcilliation that goes with that. A huge amount of work goes on behind the scenes to get large shows like The Wizard on stage.

Wardrobe
The Wardrobe is part of the Waimate Theatre Company. It is based in two adjoining buildings in Shearman Street on the opposite side of the road to the Knox Church and next to the Senior Citizen Rooms.

The Wardrobe started out making costumes and props for the Theatre Company’s productions, but in recent years it has also been hiring out costumes and clothing to the public. The buildings are packed with many many items it has gathered or made over the years.

In the way of costumes you may want to dress up as a witch, pumpkin, doctor, Can-can dancer, nun, fox, schoolgirl, clown, soldier, Queen, elf, chicken or Snow White. There are racks and boxes full of wonderful costumes for you to try on and select from for your stage production, party or dress-up day.

There is also clothing for every occasion and from every era, from 1920s flapper dresses through to 1970s Kaftans and 1980s Abba style. There are ballgowns and evening dresses, fur coats and men’s suits. To complete your outfit there is a large selection of hats, handbags, shoes, wigs, feather boas, costume jewellery and so much more.

The Wardrobe is run by volunteers and is open Wednesdays 6.30-7.30pm and Thursdays 2- 3pm There is a basic hire fee of only $20 per person, but small items may be less. There may be a deposit required for some special items. This will be discussed at the time of hiring. All funds are ploughed back into the Waimate Theatre Company to finance costumes and props for future shows.

Why not call in and let us help transform you for your special event. Come and see us when you can’t find what you want in your own wardrobe.

If these times do not suit, you will find contact numbers on the front door or you can phone Anne Anderson on 689 8125 to get in touch with us to arrange a mutually convenient time to visit and search for your outfit.

The Wardrobe is NOT open on the weekend.
